Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary, UN Convention on Climate Change and Mark Carney, UN Special Envoy for Climate Action and Finance, will be among the key speakers at the Green Horizon Summit in London from 9-11 November.
Organised by the World Economic Forum and the Green Finance Institute, the summit is intended to boost efforts to tackle climate change, a year ahead of the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26).
The summit is timed for when the UK would have been hosting COP26 had it not been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. COP26 is now scheduled to be held in Glasgow, Scotland from 1 to 12 November 2021.
The Green Horizon summit seeks to make the most of the enforced delay to COP 26. The London summit will focus on the important role that the drive to reach net zero carbon emissions has to play in accelerating recovery from the pandemic.
According to the organisers, capturing the commercial opportunity provided by this green transition will drive job creation and growth after the pandemic.
In particular, the Green Horizon Summit aims to mobilise funding to finance net zero ahead of COP26 by addressing five themes:
• Reporting, Risk, and Returns
• The Energy Transition
• Infrastructure and Green Growth
• Resilience and Adaptation
• Nature and Net Zero
The Summit will conclude with a focus on the actions financial firms need to make.
